Guffey Cave June 15th

No group limit.
This cave is on private property. Permission is needed but there are no permits to be signed.
Meet at 11:00am on Fish Trap Road a few miles south of Cathedral Caverns State Park.

Park along the right side of the road. Do not park in the empty grassy lot. We will make the short hike down an old logging road to the cave entrance.
Pleistocene bear bones were found covered by flowstone. The cave has pretty flowstone formations in the Little India area. The Birmingham Grotto made a film here in the early 1960’s. A large dry cave with nice formation galleries. Very few people make the entrance-to-entrance trip, which involves some crawling and getting wet in a few pools. There is enough big cave in the section accessible from the main entrance to spend all day without getting wet or doing any real crawling, A traverse on the right side of the entrance room, followed by a short climb-down, takes you into the main trunk passage.
I didn’t realize it was Father’s Day when I conceived of this trip, but those with older children could bring them along for a special memory.
Don’t forget to bring snacks or a lunch and a change of clothes. You know, the usual

May 24th
Come join us as we head out to sinking cove preserve to help with up keep before a busy month of July. This will involve grass cutting, weed eating, and possible limb/ tree cutting. Please, if possible, bring what equipment you can so we can keep all hands involved busy. If we can make short work of this there may be a caving trip calling our name .
As always permits need to be signed. Gate code will be posted soon.
For those that haven’t been, please note that the trail to get to the preserve is pretty bumpy and includes a small creek crossing. Those that want to follow or ride in please comment or contact for a meet up location.

Get Wild Cats! May Grotto Trip!
Ever wanted to experience the Wildcat Extension in Tumbling Rock? Well here’s your chance!
The Wildcat X has a very different feel than the rest of TR. It’s very open and likely still has virgin passage yet to be discovered. It’s also far less visited perhaps due to the difficulty in finding the way?
Normal caving attire required. No vertical. Part of the route requires you to chimney a rather drippy dome. A rain jacket will make your visit more enjoyable. There will be some brief muddy belly crawls in this section but it’s really not too bad and shouldn’t be a deal breaker for most people. Once past the short dome climb a whole different world opens up to you.

As always this is an SCCI preserve and requires a signed permit.
